DTN COMMENTS:   Cash cattle country remains rather quiet this afternoon, 
with just a few asking prices noted in parts of the South at $233-plus, 
but they have not been established in the North. Bids remain very 
elusive. Significant trade volume will likely be delayed until Wednesday 
or later. 

Today's slaughter totaled 121,000 head, 2,000 below both a week and year 
ago. Cattle futures closed modestly higher on live contracts, up 15 to 
47, while feeder issues ended the day sharply higher, up 215 to 340. Beef 
cutouts are expected to close higher with light to moderate box movement.
