Helpful hints in growing malt barley 1. Choose your fields. Oats, wheat, rye, return will cause you problems with other crops 2. Seed early. The early bird gets the rain in the spring and misses the fall rains in August. 3. If the ground is cold, use a seed treatment to protect seed. 4. Use certified seed - Malt barley is an IP program. Variety purity is valued. 5. Use fungicide such as Tilt to protect the plant with your herbicide application. 6. Use fungicide at the boot stage to protect your flag leaf and prevent disease from spreading. 7. Combine early. Straight cut your barley at 17% moisture and store in aeration. 8. Store your barley in bins at 13.0 moisture. 9. Send samples to your malt selector. |
